The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson Earns One of Largest U.S. Verdicts in 2007
National legal publication lists $20.8 million verdict among Top 10 in Texas
DALLAS Ñ The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson has been recognized by American Lawyer MediaÕs Verdict Search for obtaining one of the nationÕs largest verdicts of 2007. In May 2007, the firm obtained a $20.8 million jury verdict for the wife and estate of a man who died after his vehicle was struck by an 18-wheeler.
The verdict in Bohne v. Enviroclean Management Services Inc. came in at No. 92 on Verdict SearchÕs listing of the "Top 100 Verdicts of 2007." The verdict represents the eighth largest in Texas during the past year.
Firm founder Frank L. Branson represented Kathleen Bohne in the wrongful death lawsuit stemming from an Aug. 12, 2004, truck wreck that claimed the life of her husband Robert E. Bohne.
A tractor-trailer carrying hazardous waste for Dallas-based Enviroclean Management Services Inc. collided with a car driven by Mr. Bohne, causing the car to flip over. Mr. Bohne suffered serious injuries, and was never able to leave the hospital before dying from complications caused by his injuries. In all, Mr. Bohne was hospitalized for 162 days.
"Through obvious gross negligence, this coupleÕs golden years were ruined,Ó Mr. Branson says. ÒMy hope is that this verdict sends a message to the trucking industry that this sort of behavior isnÕt going to be tolerated."
In their verdict, jurors awarded approximately $9.8 million in actual damages and $11 million in exemplary damages.
Mrs. Bohne also was represented by attorneys Debbie Dudley Branson, Michael Guajardo and Thomas J. Farmer, all of the Law Offices of Frank L. Branson.
